The Clinton Herald Monday March 30, 1953 p. 8 Edward T. Carey, 70, 505 1/2 3rd Ave. S., former city and county engineer, died at 3:50 a.m. today in Mercy hospital where he had been a patient since Tuesday. Requiem high mass will be celebrated at 9:30 Wednesday in St. Mary's church. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery. Friends may call at the Snell funeral home beginning at 7:30 p.m. today. Mr. Carey, son of the late Thomas and Catherine Purcell Carey, was born Nov. 24, 1882, in Clinton where he had spent his entire life. He attended Clinton schools and the University of Wisconsin where he studied civil engineering. He was associated with his father in the Thomas Carey and Son street contracting firm for many years, and had served as both city and county engineer before retiring from active business 10 years ago. He was a member of St. Mary's church, the Iowa Engineering society, and until his retirement was active in civil affairs. He was married April 27, 1908, to Margaret Duffy, who survives. Also surviving are three children: Mrs. John T. (Margaret) Harvey, South Bend, Ind., Dr. Edward T. Carey, Clinton, and Alan J. Carey, Chicago, and eight grandchildren. His parents and two brothers preceded him in death.
