Visitation: 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at Nelson Funeral Home, DeWitt.

DEWITT — David E. Bender, 64, of DeWitt, died Wednesday at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Iowa City.

His body will be cremated.

He was born Oct. 22, 1942, in DeWitt to Elmer and Rosalyn Hinrichs Bender.

He was a Vietnam 9th Marine Corps District member for more than four years. He also was a trombone player in the Marine Corps Band.

He was employed as a machinist with The Chicago Northwestern Railroad for many years.

Survivors include daughters, Michele (Lonnie) Havener of DeWitt and Jennifer Bender of Irvine, Calif.; one grandchild; and three brothers, Bill (Pat) Bender of Grand Mound, Ron (Patti) Bender of Yuma, Ariz., and Terry (Linda) Bender of West Branch.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
