Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home and Crematory.

SERVICES: 1 p.m. Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church with the Rev. Paul Holmer officiating.

CLINTON — Ruth E. Stansberry, 81, of Clinton, died Tuesday at the Alverno Health Care Facility, Clinton.

Entombment will be in the mausoleum at Clinton Lawn Cemetery.

She was born May 29, 1925, in Clinton to William J.C. and Ruth A. Chaffee Volckmann. She married John C. Stansberry on Aug. 24, 1943, in Sacramento, Calif.

She was a 1943 graduate of Clinton High School.

She was the owner and co-manager of Volckman Furniture and Carpet Co. in Clinton, with her husband, for 35 years before retiring in 1989.

She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where she sang in the choir. She was a lifetime member of Clinton Chapter Order of Eastern Star 65, Scottish American Society, Mercy Auxiliary, Clinton Historical Society, Soaring Eagle Nature Center and Womens Christian Services. She was a member of the Franklin School PTA, Rainbow Girls, Clinton Mutual and Plate Glass board of directors, Volckman Furniture Manufacturing board of directors, leader of Brownie and Girl Scout Troop 350 of Franklin School, Phi Sigma Alpha Sorority and the Child Study Circle.

Survivors include her husband; one son, John C. (Peggy M.) Stansberry Jr. of San Marcos, Texas; two daughters, Patricia A. (Dennis) Woods of Fulton, Ill., and Carol Lynn (H. David) Petersen of Parkersburg, W.Va.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

The family requests that memorials be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church or the Shriners Hospital of Crippled Children.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, one brother and one sister.
