Hildred G. Nerhus

Visitation: 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, rural Calamus.

Services: 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Schultz Funeral Home, Grand Mound, is handling arrangements.

CALAMUS — Hildred G. Nerhus, 94, of Calamus, died Friday at the Methwick Community in Cedar Rapids.

She was born April 8, 1912, to Eli Nerhus and Carrie Pedersen Nerhus.

She graduated from Calamus High School and received a bachelor’s degree from Cornell College and a master’s degree from the University of Illinois. She taught school for 42 years, the last 21 in Davenport.

She was baptized and confirmed in Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in rural Calamus, where she remained a member. She taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, was active in ladies’ groups and was the organist for many years. In Davenport, she was past president of a retired teachers group and also past president of Alpha Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma International and a charter member of the BBC Book Club.

Survivors include a sister, Corrine Nerhus Erickson, of Cedar Rapids; brother-in-law, Arnie Erickson, of Cedar Rapids; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be given to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Calamus.
