Richard King “Dick” Woodruff

SERVICES: 11 a.m. Tuesday at Zion Presbyterian Church, Schapville, Ill., with Pastor Dottie Morizzo officiating.

ELIZABETH, Ill. — Richard King “Dick” Woodruff, 85, of rural Elizabeth, died Saturday at his home.

Burial will be in Woodbine (Ill.) Cemetery.

He was born Oct. 6, 1921, in Albany, N.Y., to Ernest and Helen Woodruff. He married Margaret Carson on Oct. 7, 1949, in Winnetka, Ill.

He graduated from New Trier High School, Winnetka, Ill. He was a 1944 graduate of Williams College, Williamstown, Mass.

He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1942 to 1946 during World War II. He attained the rank of corporal.

He worked with Refractory Products Inc., manufacturing ceramic insulation materials. After serving as president for 14 years, he retired in 1986. After retirement he and his wife moved to rural Elizabeth.

He served as district commissioner of the Fox River Valley Pony Club; regional commissioner of United States Pony Club, Area IV; regional supervisor of United States Combined Training Association; president of Fox River Valley Hunt; and president of Cornwall Hounds. He also was a member of Zion Presbyterian Church, Schapville, Ill., and the Galena (Ill.) Rotary Club.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Thomas Woodruff of Oxford, David (Cary) Woodruff of Woodstock, Ill., and Peter (Judy) Woodruff of Stockton, Ill.; two daughters, Helen (George) Hoffman of Barrington Hills, Ill., and Amy (Richard) Price of Libertyville, Ill.; and seven grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Nature Conservatory, Heifer Project, Doctors Without Borders or Freeport (Ill.) Health Network Hospice.
