Ruby I. Hubbart, 83, formerly of Camanche, died Thursday, December 28, 2006 at Eagle Point Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Clinton. Funeral Services will be 11:00AM Tuesday, January 2, 2006 at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home & Crematory. Visitation will be from 9:00AM until the service hour at the Funeral Home, Burial will be at Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Carrie Gruver, Steve Carver, Lisa Frederick, and Sean Davis. Honorary pallbearers will be Nick Frederick and Tom Callahan.
Ruby was born in Clinton on March 13, 1923, to William and Marie Carstensen Nielsen. She graduated from Clinton High School in 1941. She married Bert Hubbart on November 8, 1943 in Cherry Point, North Carolina, while he was serving in the U.S. Marine Corp. He died on February 26, 1973.
Ruby had worked for John D. Van Allen Company and Carl Ryner Insurance Agency. She and a business partner then operated their own insurance and real estate agency for many years, Hill-Hubbart Insurance, from which she later retired.
She was a member of the First Church of Christ Scientist. She enjoyed growing plants, baking, playing cribbage and card games, and visiting with family members, friends and neighbors. She was quite artistic and enjoyed drawing portraits of family members. Ruby loved animals, and she adopted many cats and dogs over the years. She also enjoyed watching and feeding birds.
Ruby had resided at Eagle Point for the past six years, and she loved all the wonderful nurses and aides who helped her live a comfortable life. She appreciated their loving care and compassion, as well as all the time they spent with her.
Ruby is survived by daughters Nancy (Rick) Frederick and Linda (Bill) Shores, both of Clinton; four grandchildren, Nick Frederick, Lisa Frederick, Carrie Gruver, and Tom Callahan; and sisters-in-law Vivian Peters and Evelyn Hubbart. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents; a brother, William Nielsen; and a sister, Alice Briggs.
Memorials may be made in Ruby’s name to Eagle Point Nursing and Rehabilitation Center or to Genesis Hospice.
