Visitation: 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt, with a vigil service at 8 p.m. Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, is assisting the family with arrangements.

SERVICES: 11 a.m. Thursday at the church with the Revs. Tom McDermott and H. Robert Harness officiating.

DELMAR — Margaret “Margie” McDermott, 50, of Delmar, died Saturday at Finley Hospital, Dubuque.

Pallbearers will be Mike, Chad, Jimmy and Jon Thiel, Mike Wing and Brad Randall.

Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was born April 23, 1956, in DeWitt to Jim and Mary Jackson Thiel. She married Raymond McDermott on June 29, 1979, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt.

She graduated from DeWitt High School. She also received her teaching education from Mount St. Claire, Clinton, and Marycrest College, Davenport.

She spent most of her time as kindergarten teacher, first in Lost Nation for 13 years and then in Delwood for 11 years.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt, its altar society, the National Education Association and American Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include her husband; one son, Luke (Shelly) McDermott of Delmar; one daughter, Maura McDermott, a student at Iowa State University; her father, Jim Thiel of DeWitt; two brothers, Bob (Jane) Thiel of Delmar and John Thiel of LeClaire; and nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church and school or the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
