SERVICES: 10 a.m. Saturday at the church with the Rev. Michael Wey officiating. Law-Jones Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
SAVANNA, Ill. — Retired First Lt. Joe Seitz, 91, of Savanna, died Tuesday at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Mount Carroll, Ill.
Burial will be in Savanna Township Cemetery with military rites accorded.
He was born March 14, 1915, in Milwaukee to Joseph and Mary Koss Seitz. He married Lessetta Dauphin on June 18, 1959, in Mount Carroll.
He enlisted in U.S. Army in 1933. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He retired in 1956. He received many medals, commendations and awards for service. He worked for the Carroll County Highway Department, Savanna-Sabula Bridge, U.S. Postal Service in Savanna and owned and operated the Palisades Motel for 12 years.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Savanna, for many years and also was a member of the Northern Illinois Forestry Association.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, June (John) Bimm of Thomson, Ill.; two sons, James (Georgieann) Seitz of Dumfries, Va., and Joe (Rena) Seitz of Lowell, Mich.; five grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Violet Seitz of Milwaukee; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial fund has been established for First Presbyterian Church, Savanna, and the Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Mount Carroll, in his name.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.
