John J. Salutz, 54, died in Los Angeles, Calif. on Tuesday, Jan. 14 after a lingering illness. The body will repose in the Snyder funeral home beginning at 3 p.m. Monday when friends may call. A requiem mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday in Sacred Heart church with Rev. Thomas L. Dinges, assistant pastor, as the celebrant. The Sacred Heart parish rosary will be recited on Monday at 8:30 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be in the family lot in St. Mary's cemetery.

John J. Salutz was born in Clinton on March 2, 1903, the son of Florian and Elizabeth Bach Salutz. He attended Sacred Heart school and Clinton high school. He had lived in California for the last 22 years and was in the merchant marine for many years before retiring because of disability.

Preceding him in death were his parents and one brother. Surviving are two brothers, Leo M. Salutz, Valders, Wis., and Edward of Clinton; five sisters, Mrs. J.L. (Anna) Malm, Albany, N.Y.; Mrs. C.H. (Frances) Ralff, Kingston, N.Y., and Mrs. J.E. (Carmel) Purcell; Mrs. C.F. (Florence) Overkamp; and Mrs. M.T. (Mary)McCarthy, all of Clinton, and nieces and nephews.
