Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home and Crematory.

SERVICES: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Elvira Zion Lutheran Church with the Rev. Walter Malkewitz officiating.

CLINTON — Waldo Mommsen, 95, of Clinton, died Friday at Wyndcrest Nursing Home, Clinton.

Burial will follow in Clinton Lawn Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be great-grandsons, Cully and Oliver Eisenbeis; and Wylie Pillers, Dr. George York, Jim Veenstra and Matt Mommsen.

He was born Dec. 31, 1910, near Bryant to John and Helen Mathiesen Mommsen. He married Violet Harksen on Sept. 1, 1936, in Elvira. She died in 1998.

He was a graduate of Miles High School.

He farmed in the Elvira area before retiring in 1975. He then moved to Clinton.

He was a 50-plus member of the Miles Masonic Lodge, Clinton Scottish Rite Bodies, KAABA Shrine and 4-H leader. He also was an active member of the Iowa Cattlemen’s Association, Iowa Cattlemen’s Hall of Fame and former member of the Clinton Rotary Club.

Survivors include one son, Richard (Kay) Mommsen of Clinton; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Wayne (Betty) Mommsen of Miles; four sisters, Ann Simmons and Velma Petersen, both of Preston, and Jeanette (Raymond) Eggers and Fern Dosland, both of Clinton; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorials be made to Elvira Zion Lutheran Church or Shriner’s Crippled Children’s Hospitals.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one daughter-in-law, two brothers and two sisters.
