Dorothy M. Springer Maher

Visitation: 9 to 10:45 a.m. Thursday at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church.

SERVICES: 11 a.m. Thursday at the church with the Revs. David Steinle and David Brownfield officiating. Schultz Funeral Home, Grand Mound, is handling arrangements.

GRAND MOUND — Dorothy M. Springer Maher, 94, of Grand Mound and formerly of Davenport, died Sunday at Westwing Place, DeWitt.

Burial will be at Holy Family Cemetery, Davenport.

Pallbearers will be Michael Maher, William Maher, Brian Maher, Andrew Maher, Kevin Maher, Jim Schlichting and Jerry Ruefer.

She was born Jan. 10, 1912, in Keokuk to Leo and Catherine Connery Springer. She married Peter A. Maher on Oct. 18, 1933 in Davenport. He died in 1985.

She was a homemaker and worked in housekeeping at St. Ambrose College. She had resided with her son and daughter-in-law in Grand Mound, prior to moving to Westwing Place, DeWitt.

She was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic church for more than 90 years and its Altar and Rosary Society and Senior Lunch Group. She also was a member of Ss Philip and James Catholic Church and Altar and Rosary Society, Grand Mound.

Survivors include four sons, Michael (Joyce) Maher of Geneseo, Ill., William (Marsha) Maher of Bettendorf, Patrick (Holly) Maher of Washington, Ill., and Dennis (Deanna) Maher of Capatola and Jackson, Calif.; a daughter-in-law, Jean Maher of Grand Mound; a sister, Teresa Busch of Lakeside, Calif.; a sister-in-law, Margaret Jellineck of Davenport; 22 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, a son, her parents, two grandchildren, a great-grandchild, three brothers and three sisters.
