SERVICES: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Bethel Christian Reformed Church, Fulton, with the Rev. Len Meinema officiating.
FULTON, Ill. — John E. Dykstra, 81, of Fulton, died Sunday at Mercy North Hospital.
Interment will be in Fulton Township Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jason Rickertsen, Jeff, Kendall and Matthew Dykstra, Joel Brown, Don Dykstra and John and Chris Williams.
He was born Nov. 11, 1924, in Thomson, Ill., to Joseph and Kate Buikema Dykstra. He married Doris R. Vanderploeg on June 19, 1945, in Fulton.
He was educated in Thomson grade schools.
He was engaged in farming in the rural Morrison, Ill., and Fulton area. He also was employed with Drives Inc., Fulton, before retiring in 1988.
He was a charter member of Bethel Christian Reformed Church, Fulton, where he served as deacon, cadet counselor and was a member of the church’s Men’s Society. He also was a member of the Whiteside County Farm Bureau.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Sharon (Wayne) Rickertsen of Low Moor; four sons, Len (Shirley) Dykstra and Russ (Julie) Dykstra, both of Fulton; Dave (Laurie) Dykstra of Morrison and Warren (Karen) Dykstra of Clinton; seven grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Kathryn (Clarence) Huizenga of Fulton; and one brother, Sebert (Wilma) Dykstra of Fulton.
