Gaylord Sikkema

STERLING, Ill. — Gaylord Sikkema, 89, of Sterling, died Tuesday at his home.

Burial will be in Oak Knoll Memorial Parks.

He was born April 9, 1917, in Fulton, Ill., to Gerald and Grace Hook Sikkema. He married Evelyn Pessman on Oct. 17, 1939. She died in 1940. He then married Velma Shipma on Sept. 13, 1941. She died in 1982. He later married Marian Karn Siperly on April 20, 1984.

He was employed for 35 years with Northwestern Steel and Wire Co. before retiring as pit foreman in 1979.

He attended Trinity United Methodist Church, Sterling.

Survivors include his wife, Marian; one daughter, Linda Cunningham of Stockton, Ill.; one son, Ned (Carol) Sikkema of Dixon, Ill.; one stepson, Aldis (Dawn) Siperly III of Sterling; one foster son, Bill (Ellen) Forbes of Rock Falls, Ill.; three sisters, Arlene Eissens of Thomson, Ill., Henrietta Maring of Frisco, Texas, and Pauline Kitteringham of Hot Springs, Ark.; one brother, Russell (Darlene) Sikkema of Fulton, Ill.; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one stepgrandchild.

Memorials may be made to Rock River Valley or Trinity United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by one brother, one sister and one foster son.

Death date: Oct. 31, 2006
