SERVICES: 11 a.m. Thursday at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Chadwick, with the Rev. Marcia Strahl officiating.

CHADWICK, Ill. — Arnold L. Fjelstad, 77, of Chadwick, died Saturday at the Good Samaritan Nursing Facility, Mount Carroll, Ill.

Burial will be in Chadwick Cemetery.

He was born on June 30, 1929, to Wilhelm and Elsie “Mary” Bolstad Fjelstad in Ferryville, Wis. He married Berniece L. Arnold on Nov. 26, 1948, in Ferryville. She died in 2003.

In his younger years, he worked with Beirman and Larson Chevrolet, Chadwick, and later with Kampmeier GMC, Mount Carroll as a mechanic. He also owned and operated Arnie’s Repair Shop, Chadwick, for 34 years.

He was a longtime member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Chadwick Masonic Lodge. He also was a former member of the Chadwick Commercial Club.

Survivors include two sons, Rodney (Vicki) Fjelstad of Sterling, Ill., and Randy Fjelstad of Valley, Calif.; two daughters, Cheryl (Jerry) Pauley of Milledgeville, Ill., and Catherine (William) Allen of Kingsville, Texas; one brother, Willard (Elaine) Fjelstad of Viroqua, Wis.; four sisters, Mildred Fortune of La Crosse, Wis., Myrtle Fortune of Viroqua, Edna Stove of La Crosse and Arlene Bruckner of Rockford, Ill.; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

A general memorial fund has been established in his name.
