David D. Marvin

Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Preston.

SERVICES: 11 a.m. Saturday at the church with the Rev. Karl Goodfellow, pastor of Preston United Methodist Church, officiating.

PRESTON — David D. Marvin, 52, of Preston, died Tuesday at his home.

Inurnment will be in the Preston Cemetery at a later date. Cremation rites will be accorded.

He was born Jan. 1, 1954, to Dale and Mary Jane Sodeman Marvin in Clinton. He married Diane Eissens on Sept. 9, 1978, in Thomson, Ill.

He graduated from Preston High School in 1972 He later attended Clinton Community College for two years.

He farmed in the area for more than 30 years and worked with New Horizons Farm Service in Miles for seven years.

He was a lifetime member of Miles United Methodist Church, National Rifleman’s Association and Iowa Rifleman’s Association. He received the Governor’s Appreciation Award for his participation in hunter safety programs. He was a member of the Jackson County Pork Producers where he served as president and secretary. He was on the Jackson County Conservation Board and also was active in 4-H. He also was a part of the Jackson County 4-H Extension.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Nick (Joy) Marvin of Princeton, Iowa, and Nathan Marvin, at home; one daughter, Elizabeth Marvin of West Des Moines; his mother, Mary Jane Marvin of Preston; one brother, Duane (Sally) Marvin of Preston; and several nieces and nephews.

A general memorial fund has been established in his name.
