McGIVERN, Gerald

DAVENPORT -- Services for Gerald E. "Gerry" McGivern, Davenport, will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Family Catholic Church, Davenport. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Tuesday at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport, with a prayer service recited at 7 p.m. Mr. McGivern died Tuesday, Dec. 19,
2000, at Kahl Home for the Aged, after a brief illness. Gerald Edward McGivern was born Nov. 2, 1916, in Marengo, Iowa, to Michael G. and Alice (Kibble) McGivern. He graduated from St. Ambrose College with a bachelor of arts degree in 1941. During World War II, he served as a master sergeant in the Army. Gerald E. McGivern married Margaret J. Kearney on Aug. 25, 1942, in Orlando, Fla. He was employed 40 years at Wonder Bread Bakery, Davenport. He retired in 1978. After his retirement from Wonder Bread, he was grounds director at Holy Family Church for 10 years. His memberships included Holy Family Catholic Church, where he was an usher. He was a member and director of the Bakers and Confectionery Credit Union and a member of Mississippi Valley Credit Union. Memorials may be made to Kahl Home or Holy Family Church. Survivors include his wife, Margaret; daughters, Sheila Engel, Davenport, and Pat Hogan Stender and her husband Mark, Bonita, Calif.; sons and their spouses, Tom M!
cGivern, Davenport, Frank McGivern and Molly, St. Paul, Minn., Willie McGivern and Chris, Davenport, Joe McGivern and Jodi, Davenport, Jay McGivern, Woodbury, Minn., Gene McGivern and Barbara, Eagan, Minn., and John McGivern and Kristin, Albert Lea, Minn.; 17 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary (Mrs. Jim) Roegiers, Davenport, Alice (Mrs. Richard) Beck, Bettendorf, Eileen Brasch, Batavia, Ill., and Genevieve Brothersen, Guernsey, Iowa. Three brothers, Mike, Jim and Gene McGivern, a sister, Margaret McGivern, and two sons-in-law, Gene Engel and Jack Hogan, preceded him in death. May they rest in peace.
