Ned C. Dollinger

SERVICES: Were 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Lanark United Methodist Church.

LANARK, Ill. — Ned C. Dollinger, 85, of Lanark, died Friday at Rockford (Ill.) Memorial Hospital.

Cremation rites will be accorded. Private family interment will follow.

He was born Sept. 22, 1921, in Chadwick, Ill., to John and Regina Schreiner Dollinger. He married Betty Rowland on Feb. 17, 1943, in Chicago.

He graduated from Lanark High School in 1940 and later attended Northern Illinois University for two years.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army for four years and was stationed in Fort Monroe, Va.

After his discharge, he operated Dollinger Market in Lanark with his father. He also was a postmaster with the U.S. Postal Service, Lanark, from 1948 to 1971. In the early 1950s, he and his family planted Christmas trees in Freedom Township, which later became Dollinger Christmas Tree Farm.

Survivors include his wife; one son, John (Janie) Dollinger of Shannon, Ill.; one daughter, Jill Gaar of Ennis, Mont.; two grandchildren; one half brother, Rex (Peggy) Dollinger of Bayfield, Wis.; one aunt, Evelyn Cook of Freeport, Ill.; and one nephew.

In lieu of flowers, a general memorial fund has been established in his name.
