Carle Keller Wells

Carle Keller Wells, age 85, of Stone Mountain, GA, formerly of Decatur, passed away on September 24, 2006.

Born in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, he was the son of Seymour L. and Pearle Russell Wells. He was preceded in death by his three brothers, Major, John-Paul, and Lawrance.

Mr. Wells graduated from Sabula High School in Sabula, Iowa, and attended junior college in Iowa on a basketball scholarship.

During World War II, Mr. Wells served in the Seabees, receiving an honorary medical discharge.

His lifetime occupation was that of a salesman, and he was President of C. K. Wells Supply Company in Decatur, GA.

Mr. Wells was an active member of Avondale Pattillo United Methodist Church, where he served as a Sunday school teacher, a lay leader, and was a former member of the administrative board for the church. He was a member of Post 66 of the American Legion in Avondale Estates, serving in several elected offices, and volunteering with the USO. He was a member of the American Legion’s Honorary Society, the 40/8, Atlanta Voiture # 217. Mr. Wells served in numerous elected official positions with this organization on the local, state and national level. In 1974, he served as its National President, the Chef de Chemin de Fer.

Mr. Wells is survived by his wife of 64 years, Vera Mae Powell Wells. He is also survived by his children, John R. and Betty P. Wells of Carrollton, GA, Betty W. and Roger Daniel of Carrollton, GA, Mary W. and Tom Conway of Bainbridge, GA, and Paul Wells of Decatur, GA. Additional survivors include seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, several cousins, nieces and nephews, in-laws, and special family friends.

Services for Mr. Wells will begin with a visitation on Wednesday, September 27, 2006 from 6-8 P.M. at A.S. Turner & Sons in Decatur, GA. The funeral will be held on Thursday, September 28, 2006 at Avondale Pattillo United Methodist Church in Decatur, GA, at 11:00 A.M. Grandsons and sons-in-law will serve as pallbearers; members of the Joy Sunday School Class will be honorary pallbearers. Interment will immediately follow at Floral Hills Memory Gardens.

Those desiring may send donations in his memory to the Avondale Pattillo United Methodist Church or the American Heart Association. A. S. Turner & Sons.
