Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Vandemore Funeral Home, Geneseo, where a Moose service will be conducted at 7:45 p.m.
SERVICES: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home where military honors will be accorded by Geneseo VFW Post 5083. The Rev. Ron Drummond will be officiating.
GENESEO, Ill. — Willis D. Gibler, 83, of Geneseo, died Tuesday at Trinity Medical Center, Terrace Park Pathway Hospice Unit, Bettendorf.
Inurnment will be in Grove Hill Cemetery, Morrison, Ill. Cremation rites will be accorded following services.
He was born July 28, 1923, in Newton Township, Fenton, Ill., to Clyde and Nona Beach Gibler. He married Wilma Rose on Aug. 20, 1948, in Morrison, Ill.; she died in 1986. He later married Phyllis Park Vincent on April 11, 1987, in Geneseo.
He graduated from Erie (Ill.) High School.
He served as a U.S. Navy cadet from 1942 to 1946 during the World War II invasion of Okinawa on the LST 819 Ship.
He farmed in Whiteside County (Ill.) for many years. He also was employed as a tool maker with General Electric, Morrison, for 24 years and as a tool and die maker with Sterling Multi Production, Prophetstown, Ill., for 12 years before retiring in 1994.
He was a member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, Geneseo; Whiteside County Farm Bureau, Geneseo; Moose Lodge 990; Geneseo VFW Post 5083; and American Legion Post 350 Geneseo. He also bowled in the Moose Mixer and Tuesday Night Leagues.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis; one daughter, Myra (Roy) Sargent of Sterling, Ill.; one son, Dale Gibler of Morrison; two stepdaughters, Janella (Craig) Rosenthal of Longmont, Colo., and Charla (Paul) Moneymaker of Overland Park, Kan.; two stepsons, Rick Vincent of Geneseo and Brad (Cheryl) Vincent of East Moline, Ill.; two grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; and two sisters, Eleanor Lampo of East Moline, Ill., and Vey (Bob) Booth of Reynolds, Ill.
