Geraldine Jenness Roby

Visitation: 3 to 9 p.m. today at Boothby Funeral Home, Cherokee, with family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

SERVICES: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. The Rev. Gary Swick will be officiating. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the funeral home.

AURELIA — Geraldine Jenness Roby, 86, of Aurelia and formerly of Cherokee, died Sunday at Sunset Knoll Retirement Home, Aurelia.

Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Cherokee.

She was born Jan. 18, 1920, in Quimby to Francis and Verna McCorkel Jenness. She married Paul E. Roby on Dec. 5, 1937, in Sibley. He died in 1996.

She graduated form Washta High School in 1937.

She lived at Sunset Knoll since 1998. She also lived in Cherokee, Miles, Shelbyville, Ill., and several other towns in Iowa.

She was a member of First Church of Christ, Cherokee; Rebekah Lodge and Garment Workers Union.

She worked, owned and managed a convenience store. She was a seamstress and also worked in various grocery stores before retiring in 1982.

Survivors include two sons, Wayne (Barbara) Roby of Kansas City, Mo., and Ron (Marcy) Roby of Burlington; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruby (Lester) Webb of Cherokee and Lois Pflugard of Port Angeles, Wash.; one brother, Merritt (Velma) Jenness of Marcus; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one grandchild, six brothers and two sisters.

Death date: Sept. 3, 2006
