Charles A. “Al” Ferris

Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. today at Law Jones Funeral Home, Savanna.

SERVICES: 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Savanna. The Rev. Moises Apostol will be officiating.

SAVANNA, Ill. — Charles A. “Al” Ferris, 68, of Savanna, died Tuesday at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Iowa City.

Burial will be in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, Savanna, with military rites accorded by Savanna VFW Post 2223.

He was born Sept. 3, 1937, to Charles and Nerrine Coon Ferris.

He graduated from Savanna High School in 1955.

He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1955 to 1958.

He married Sheila Rogers on Feb. 28, 1960, in Davenport. She died in 1997. He later married Donna Ford on Feb. 20, 2003.

He worked 37 years with the Milwaukee Railroad.

He was a member of the Mississippi Flyway Sportsman Club.

Survivors include his wife, Donna of Savanna; one son, Jeff (Lori) Ferris of Round Rock, Texas; one daughter, Julie (Shane Coffman) Ferris of Huntsville, Ala.; one stepson, Robert (Margaret) Ford of Monroe Center, Ill.; three grandchildren; three brothers, Elmer “Gene” (Joann) Ferris of Clinton, Cliff (Sue) Ferris and Larry (Carol) Ferris, all of Savanna; one sister-in-law, Jean Ferris of Savanna; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial has been established in his name.
