Johnnie Witt

Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Pape Funeral Home, Clinton.

SERVICES: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Ascension Lutheran Church, Goose Lake.

GOOSE LAKE — Johnnie A. Witt, 85, of Goose Lake, died Tuesday at Crestridge Nursing Home, Maquoketa.

Burial will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Tom and Robert Witt, Harlan Lynn, Mike Portz and Robert and Jerry Rickertsen.

He was born June 17, 1921, in Ryan to Carl and Selma Benning Witt. He married Evelyn Rickertsen on March 9, 1947, in Charlotte. She died in March.

In 1957, he graduated from Reisch American Auctioneering School, Mason City.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He was a farmer and also worked with Clinton Corn Processing for more than 18 years.

He was an auctioneer for more than 40 years.

He was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church, Miles American Legion and the Goose Lake Lions Club.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Jodene (Robert) Berggren of Maquoketa and Dorene McDonnell of Clinton; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Donna Jean Witt of Maquoketa; and one brother, Erwin Witt of Mesa, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, two sisters and one brother.

Death date: Aug. 22, 2006
