SERVICES: Were conducted Aug. 4 at Carolina Meadows, Chapel Hill, N.C. Cremation Society of the Carolinas, 2205 E. Millbrook Road, Raleigh, N.C., assisted the family with arrangements.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Richard “Dick” Hall Aycrigg, 85, of Chapel Hill and formerly of Clinton, died July 30 at Carolina Meadows, Chapel Hill.

He was born Aug. 3, 1921, to Edward and Janet Aycrigg of Lincoln, Neb. He married Katharine “Kim” Isabelle Migel in Charlestown, R.I.

He attended King and Kent schools and Williams College.

He served as a corporal in the U.S. Army and spent 16 months in the European theatre.

He and his wife lived for 21 years in Rowayton, Conn. They moved to Clinton where he was vice president and director of marketing research with Nielsen Clearing House. He became a leader in marketing “cents-off” coupons and appeared as a couponing expert on the Phil Donahue Show. After retiring in 1987, he and his wife moved to Chapel Hill. They were members of St. Bartholomew Episcopal Church, Pittsboro, and active members of the United Nations Association.

He served on the Clinton School Board for 14 years and as president of the Paul B. Sharar Foundation at Clinton Community College. He was a senior warden and member of Grace Episcopal Church and was a Paul Harris Fellow with the Rotary Club.

Survivors include his wife; one sister, Jane Emery of Colorado Springs, Colo., two sons, Bill of Land O’Lakes, Fla., and David of Kati Kati, New Zealand; one daughter, Amy of Portland, Ore.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother and one son.
