George P. Hetz

Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. today at Gibson Funeral Home, Port Byron.

SERVICES: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

PORT BYRON, Ill. — George P. Hetz, 86, of Port Byron, died Friday at Pleasant View Nursing Home, Morrison, Ill.

Burial will be in Cordova (Ill.) Cemetery.

He was born Dec. 14, 1919, in Cordova to Philip and Kathryn Schmidt Hetz.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He worked with the Rock Island (Ill.) Arsenal and Eagle Signal. He retired from farming in 1985. He was a school bus driver with the Riverdale School District for 18 years.

He was a member of Coe Lamb American Legion, Port Byron.

Survivors include two daughters, Jane (Larry) Darby of Morrison and Gloria (Dick) Schell of Barstow; one son, Michael (Char Lavine) Hetz of Port Byron; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Betty (Charles) Horn of Albany; and one brother, Robert (Jen Bennett) Hetz of Port Byron.

A memorial fund has been established.

He was preceded by his parents, one sister and one son.

Death date: Aug. 11, 2006
