Lyle F. Hute

MAQUOKETA — Lyle F. Hute, 81, of Maquoketa, died Friday at his home.

Burial will be at a later date in the Mount Hope Cemetery, Maquoketa.

He was born Aug. 26, 1924, near Iron Hill to Howard and Fern Fenton Hute. He married Helen Busch on Dec. 19, 1944, in Miami.

He was a 1943 graduate of Maquoketa High School. After his military service, he entered Carpenters Trade School, Bloomington, Ill., graduating in 1946.

He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Navy. He served as storekeeper, accountant and petty officer. He was a member of the crew on the USS Glennon from May 1943 until it was sunk off the Normandy Peninsula Coast during the first week of the invasion. After a brief leave, he continued his service aboard the USS Corduba in the Pacific Front until the end of the war. He was honorably discharged.

He worked as a carpenter with G.L. Stockham and Sons Inc., Maquoketa, from 1947 to 1951. He then worked as in internal auditor with Buckhorn Creamery, which merged with Mississippi Valley Milk Producers in 1962 and later merged to become Swiss Valley. In 1964, he was promoted as Maquoketa plant superintendent and in 1969, he was promoted to staff assistant at corporate offices in Mount Joy before retiring in 1988.

He was a member and past chancellor commander of the KP Lodge, Maquoketa. He also was a member of the Maquoketa Country Club.

Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Connie (Dennis) Etheredge of Chesterfield, Va.; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one sister, Marilyn (Ken) Seibert of Webb City, Mo.

A Lyle F. Hute Memorial Fund has been established.
