SAN JOSE, Calif. — Ellen R. Spalding, 85, of San Jose, and formerly of Clinton, died Sept. 16 at her home.

She was born Nov. 26, 1919, in Redwood Falls, Minn., to Herman and Minnie Rossow Raddatz. She married Carl A. Spalding on Aug. 17, 1943, in Yuba City, Calif. He died in 1996.

She was a medical transcription nurse at Jane Lamb Hospital and also worked for A.C. Nielsen.

Survivors include her children, Karlynn Emanuel of San Jose, Sandra (John) Peters of Valparaiso, Ind., and Walt (Ann) Spalding of Healdsburg, Calif.; four grandchildren; one brother, Donald (Minnie) Raddatz of Burnsville, Minn.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one sisters.
