Robert J. Eggers, 78, of rural Clinton, Iowa, died Wednesday, June 8, 2005, at Eagle Point Nursing Home, Clinton.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, June 11, 2005, at Elvria Zion Lutheran Church, with Rev. Walter Malkewitz officiating. Burial will be in the Elvira Cemetery with military honors being conducted by the Miles American Legion. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Clinton Chapel of Snell-Zornig-Dennis A. Lemke Funeral Homes and Crematory.
Robert Jack Eggers was born September 19, 1926, in Teeds Grove, Iowa, the son of John and Rosa (Jess) Eggers. He married Margaret Ohrt on June 19, 1949, in Elvira, Iowa.
He was a 1945 graduate of Miles High School. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Air Force's occupational forces in the Philippines and in Okinawa.
After his service to his country, he was employed with Huebner Garage in Teeds Grove. He later farmed near Sabula, and in 1955 he moved to Elvira where he has farmed ever since.
He was a member of the Elvira Zion Lutheran Church where he served on the church council, the American Legion, and Clinton County Cattlemen's Association. He was former a 4-H leader and he enjoyed traveling, his grandchildren, dancing, and storytelling.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret, of rural Clinton; one son, Kenneth (Nancy) Eggers, of rural Clinton, Iowa; two daughters, Gail Johns, of Rock Island, Illinois, and Janeen (Kevin) Varner, of Camanche, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Richard Eggers, of Teeds Grove, Iowa, and George Eggers, of Andover, Iowa
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, one son, and one daughter.
The family requests that memorials be made to the Elvira Zion Lutheran Church.
