The Clinton Herald Thursday October 31, 1912 p.8 Prominent Man Passes Away - Jurgen Eggers dies Thursday noon at his farm home near Andover: 72 years old- Leaves large Family to Mourn his death - Has been in this country for Many Years - Served in the Seventy-sixth Regimant, Illinois. Jurgen Eggers, a prominent farmer residing on his farm two and one half miles from Andover, passed away at noon Thursday, as the result of a stroke of paralysis. He had suffered two strokes, the first, May 18 of this year and the second and last five weeks ago. No arrangements for the funeral have yet been made. Jurgen Eggers was born in Germany in 1840. He came to the United States in 1858, settling in Illinois. He served for three years during the civil war in the Seventy-sixth regiment of Illinois troops. After the war, he moved to Iowa, where he married Catherine Dierks of Hampshire township in 1868. He leaves to mourn his death a family of eight children, his widow and a brother, Peter Eggers of Clinton. He is well known all through this country and leaves a large number of friends to mourn his death.
