Visitation: After 2 p.m. today and with family from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Lamporte Funeral Home, Carthage.

SERVICES: 2 p.m. Saturday at First United Presbyterian Church, Carthage, with the Rev. Dr. Kenneth Churchill officiating.

CARTHAGE, Ill. — Carol E. Boyer, 73, of Carthage, died Wednesday at her home.

Burial will be in Moss Ridge Cemetery, Carthage.

She was born Feb. 9, 1933, in Wessington Springs, S.D., to Scott Bernard and Mary Elizabeth Harris Allen. She married Marvin Boyer on June 18, 1955, in Huron, S.D. She her husband lived in Brookings, Mountain Lake, Minn., Clear Lake, Keokuk, Iowa City, Blairsburg, Goose Lake, Anamosa and Carthage.

She was a 1951 graduate of Huron High School. She attended the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, S.D., South Dakota State University, Brookings, S.D., and Western Illinois University, Macomb, Ill., with a Bachelor of Science degree in home economics.

She worked with the soil conservation lab at South Dakota State University, Brookings, special education unit of the Clinton School District, Johnson County Social Services office, Iowa City, and as secretary of First United Presbyterian Church, Carthage.

She was a member of First United Presbyterian Church, Carthage, Carthage Women’s Club and Mayflower Society. She sang in many church choirs and was a member of the Quincy Symphony Orchestra.

Survivors include her husband; one son, Ross (Julie) Boyer of Hamilton, Ill.; one daughter, Linda Meyer of St. James, Minn.; one sister, Alice Hohenthaner of Las Vegas; three brothers, Eugene (Mary Ellen) Allen of Columbia, S.C., Dr. Bruce (Jacqueline) Allen of Rapids City, S.D., Paul (Connie) Allen of Sioux City; and five grandchildren.

Memorials may be made in her name to First United Presbyterian Church, Carthage, or Hancock County Hugs Chapter.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one nephew and one niece.
