Visitation: 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Lemke Funeral Homes, South Chapel, 2600 Lincoln Way.

SERVICES: 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Fred Schauer officiating.

CLINTON — Byron Ray “Bud” Matthews, 86, formerly of Clinton, died June 19 in Chattanooga, Tenn.

Burial will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery with military honors conducted by AMVETS Post 28.

Pallbearers will be Ivan Barber, Don Davis, Robert Foster, Harry Goers, Charles Klinkner, John Priest, Edward Rehr and Gary Zaiser.

He was born in Jackson County.

He graduated from Clinton High School.

He was a World War II veteran serving in the U.S. Marine Corps.

He retired from Prudential Insurance Co.

He lived in Barefoot Bay, Fla., for 15 years before moving to Chattanooga in 1998.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred Matthews of Chattanooga; one son, Byron Allen (Gina) Matthews of Sandia Park, N.M.; one daughter, Mary Beth (Tom) Clark of Chattanooga; four sisters, Virginia Roessler, Grace Whalen and Mary (Don) Davis, all of Clinton, and Carol (Gary) Zaiser of Wilmington, Del.; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to Salvation Army, 219 First Ave., Clinton, IA 52732 or the Alzheimer’s Association, 736 Federal St., Suite 2318, Davenport, IA 52803.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
