Clifford E. “Gene” “10-4 Pappy” Beal

BELLE PLAINE — Clifford E. “Gene” “10-4 Pappy” Beal, 85, of Belle Plaine, died Friday at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

His body will be cremated.

He was born June 20,1921, in Belle Plaine to Leonard and Grace Beal. He married Mayme Kent on Nov. 1, 1950.

He served three years during World War II as a dock loader.

After the war, he returned to Iowa and became a truck driver. He also worked with the Chicago Northwestern Railroad as a car man. He and his wife also owned and operated Beal’s Cafe for 15 years.

Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Sandra (Jim) Blaess of Camanche; sons, Lenny (Jane) Beal of Camanche, Randy (Tina) Beal of Belle Plaine, Ronald (Teresa) Beal of Grinnell and Larry (Lori) Beal of Alleman; 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Carol (Don) Hlass of Belle Plaine, Hazel Jones of Oquawka, Ill., and Eunice Houska of Marshalltown; and many nieces and nephews.

Death date: June 30, 2006
