Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Carson and Son Funeral and Cremation Services, Maquoketa.

SERVICES: 10 a.m. Thursday at Toronto Community Church with the Rev. Ruth Ann Scott officiating.

TORONTO, Iowa — Bethel D. Bartels, 78, of Toronto, died Friday at her home.

Burial will be in the Massillon Cemetery.

She was born Sept. 30, 1927, in rural Clinton County to Arnold and Rose Mowry Starling. She married Edward C. Bartels on Aug. 22, 1945, in Maquoketa. He died in 1994.

She attended rural Cedar County schools.

She was a homemaker. Later in her life, she worked for many years as a caregiver to the elderly.

She was a member of Toronto Community Church and Lost Nation Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include her children, Patricia (Bob) Rowson, Jerry Bartels, Judy (Butch) Croce, Jan (Deb) Bartels, all of Toronto and Patrice (Terry) Willey of Lost Nation; 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one brother, Eldon (Ruthie) Starling of Mount Vernon, Mo.
