Visitation: 10 to 11:45 a.m. Wednesday at St. Anne’s Catholic Church, Welton. Nelson Funeral Home, DeWitt, is in charge of arrangements.

SERVICES: Mass of Christian Burial is at noon Wednesday at the church with the Rev. Ed Botkin officiating.

DEWITT — Anna Mae Godes, 103, of DeWitt and formerly of rural Delmar, died Friday at West Wing Place, DeWitt.

Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, DeWitt.

Pallbearers will be Jonathan and Mitchel Godes, Marty McDermott, Don Holst and Larry Roeder.

She was born Nov. 16, 1902, in rural DeWitt to Joseph and Elizabeth Burke Bathalter. She married Paul John Godes on June 1, 1943, in Chicago. He died in 1972.

She graduated from Mount St. Clare College and received her teacher’s certificate from the Iowa State Teachers College, Cedar Falls and Iowa City.

She taught for 22 years at the Welton Consolidated and Lost Nation Independent schools in the primary grades. She and her husband farmed in the Welton area.

She was a lifetime member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church, Welton, where she was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society.

Survivors include one son, Paul, of rural Delmar; and three grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to St. Anne’s Catholic Church, Welton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter, four brothers and two sisters.
