Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Hanover United Methodist Church with the Rev. Lynne Matthews officiating.

HANOVER, Ill. — Richard R. “Dick” Gillies, 84, of Hanover, died Friday at Mercy Medical Center, Dubuque.

Inurnment will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Evergreen Cemetery, Hanover, with full military rites accorded by the Hanover VFW.

He was born Jan. 29, 1922, in Naples, S.D., to George and Alice Kroppe Gillies. He married Sylvia Gallop on Dec. 16, 1950, in Watertown, S.D.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, stationed in Italy.

He worked at the Savanna Army Depot until his retirement in 1973.

Survivors include his wife; three children, Gene (Debra) Gillies of East Dubuque, Ill., Rick Gillies of Anniston, Ala., and Jolene (Dale) Horsfield of Fort Myers, Fla.; five grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Clarine Peterson of South Dakota.

A memorial fund has been established.
