CLINTON — Florence Thornton, 94, of Clinton, died Tuesday at the Alverno Health Care Facility, Clinton.
Burial will be in St. Irenaeus Calvary Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Ron Reid, Chuck, Steve and Mike Thornton, Keith Van Loo, Rick, Robert, Jason and Jeremy Thornton, John and James Dermody and Chris and Joel Thornton.
She was born June 23, 1911, in Gambrel to Joseph and Margaret Dockweiler Frank. She married Charles H. Thornton on June 2, 1934, in DeWitt. He died in 1973.
She attended DeWitt schools.
She and her husband owned and operated Sweetheart Bakery on Main Avenue from 1950 to 1973.
She was a member of the Prince of Peace Parish and Lady of Fatima.
Survivors include five children, Charles (Joanne) Thornton of Thomson, Ill., Ruth Ann (James) Van Loo of Blue Springs, Mo., Richard (Carol) Thornton of Auburn, Calif., Dan (Jeanne) Thornton of St. Louis and Mary (Phil) Hayes of Clinton; 22 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Ruth Thorpe of Rock Island, Ill.; and one brother, Robert Frank of DeWitt.
Memorials may be made to the Prince of Peace Parish or Alverno Health Care Facility.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one great-grandchild, one sister and two brothers.
