SERVICES: 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
CLINTON — Joseph E. “Joe” Dawson, 56, of Clinton, died Friday at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
Cremation rites will be accorded. Burial will be at a later date.
He was born Oct. 18, 1949, to George H. and Elaine A. Krebs Dawson Jr. He married Cathy Meier on May 11, 1974. He later married Marojie Maschmann.
He graduated from Clinton High School in 1969.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1980 to 1984 as a sonar technician on the USS Ramsey. He earned a Bronze Star.
He was employed with Union Pacific Railroad as a welder.
Survivors include one son, Christopher M. Dawson of Davenport; three brothers, Dave Dawson of Clinton, Rob (Bev) Dawson of Pennesville, N.J., and G. Phillip (Sandy) Dawson of Albany, Ill.; one sister, Nancy (Mike) Stillings of Camanche; and his mother, Elaine A. Dawson of Clinton.
A memorial fund will be established.
He was preceded in death by his father.
