Visitation: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna, Ill.

SERVICES: 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Thomas Moe officiating.

SAVANNA, Ill. — Violet J. Handel, 74, of Savanna, died Tuesday at Finley Hospital, Dubuque.

Burial will be in St. Peter Cemetery, rural Savanna.

She was born Nov. 14, 1931, in Guilford (Ill.) Township to LaVerne and Berneta Hancock Curtis. She married Harold Handel on Aug. 13, 1950. He died in 2004.

She attended country schools and graduated from Hanover (Ill.) High School in 1949. She and her husband farmed.

Survivors include her mother, Berneta Curtis of Savanna; six daughters, Barbara (Duane) Helin of East Dubuque, Ill., Deborah (Lyle) Schreiner of McAlester, Okla., Lynn Haas of Savanna, Roxanne (David) Jacobs of Dubuque, Kimberly (Richard) Cook of Clinton and Karen (Lonnie) Robinson of Savanna; one sister, Kay Ryniewicz of Bensenville, Ill.; one brother, Virgil Curtis of Spring Lake, N.C.; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and three nieces and three nephews.
