Wilbert R. Riedesel Sr., 88, of Grand Mound, died Wednesday in his home.
The funeral will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday in Kelly-Schultz Funeral Home in Grand Mound with the Rev. Clarence Pannier officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery, Grand Mound.
Pallbearers will be Johnny, Joel, and Jason Riedesel, Rodney and Brian Griep, Bart Ried and Bill Bender.
Mr. Riedesel was born March 20, 1902, in Wheatland, to John and Emma Webbles Riedesel. He married Berniece Bender, August 31, 1932, in Davenport. He had operated a DX tank wagon from 1930 to 1947 and later worked at the Pride Seed Corn Company in DeWitt. He was a former member of the Grand Mound School Board, a member of the city council and had served as mayor of Grand Mound. He enjoyed gardening and walking.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Jerry (Barbara) Griep of DeWitt; two sons, John C. Riedesel of DeWitt, and Will Ried of Camanche; 21 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two daughters, a grandson, three sisters and a brother.
