Thelma Braet

Visitation: 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Schultz Funeral Home, Grand Mound.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Faith Lutheran Church, Calamus, with the Rev. Sarah E. Kretzmann officiating.

CALAMUS — Thelma Unice Braet, 90, of Calamus, died Tuesday at Genesis Medical Center–DeWitt.

Interment will be at Rose Hill Cemetery, Calamus.

Pallbearers will be Dirk Braet, Dana Braet, Dion Braet, Ryan Braet, David Kloostra, Gary Wedeward, Daniel Braet, Darin Braet and David Braet.

She was born Dec. 7, 1915, in Welton, to Roy and Amelia (Schwarz) Ruggeberg. She married John Leo Braet on Dec. 25, 1934, in Calamus. He died in 2002.

She and her husband farmed in rural Calamus.

She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Calamus.

Survivors include two sons, Gary “Yogi” (Ruth) Braet of Calamus, and Ronald (Jolene) Braet of Beaver Creek, Ohio; 10 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; three brothers, Harold and Kenneth Ruggeberg of DeWitt and Everett Ruggeberg of Delmar; two sisters, Vinetta Farber of DeWitt and Margaret Pestka of Clinton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, three brothers and two sisters.

Memorials may be made to Faith Lutheran Church or a charity of the donor’s choice.
