SERVICES: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Salem Lutheran Church, Andrew, with the Rev. Gaylor Nelson officiating.

MAQUOKETA — Harold W. Ehl, 89, of Maquoketa and formerly of Sabula, died Saturday at Crestridge Nursing Home, Maquoketa.

Burial will be in the Andrew Cemetery where full military rites will be accorded by Maquoketa American Legion Post 75, Maquoketa VFW Post 3633 O’Connor-Regenwether and Andrew AMVETS Post 62.

He was born May 7, 1916, in Andrew to Chris and Lydia Hinman Ehl. He married Ardis Stephenson on Nov. 29, 1947, in Marion. She died in 1969. He then married Josephine Sinky in Sabula. She died in 2001.

He was an Andrew High School graduate.

He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps earning an honorable discharge.

He worked in Clinton installing and converting sheet metal furnaces for several years. He then became a self-employed businessman owning and operating Ehl’s Marine Service in Sabula from 1955 to 1977. He moved to Maquoketa in 2002.

He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, Andrew. He also was a member of the Clinton Masonic Lodge, Clinton Consistory, Sabula Masonic Lodge and was a 32nd Degree Mason.

Survivors include one son, Steve (Kathy) Ehl of Houston; one stepson, Dan Sinky of Camanche; one brother, Al (Doris) Ehl of Maquoketa; one sister, Alice Reitz of Bellevue and Helena Ehl of Maquoketa; and two step-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two wives.
