Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Elizabeth.

SERVICES: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Elizabeth United Methodist Church. The Rev. Jennifer A. Wilson will be officiating assisted by the Rev. David Poust.

ELIZABETH, Ill. — Bruce M. Williams, 77, of Elizabeth, died Saturday at his home.

Burial will be in the Elizabeth Cemetery.

He was born July 13, 1928, to Roy and Blanche Rife Williams in Stockton, Ill. He married Donna M. Schmidt on Dec. 22, 1953.

He was a 1946 graduate of Stockton High School.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1947 to 1949. He later served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He was a salesman with the JoDaviess Service Co. for 30 years before retiring in 1983. Upon retirement, he drove a bus for River Ridge Schools and helped at his son’s business.

He was named honorary fireman after serving 26 years with the Elizabeth Fire Department, seven of which were as fire chief. He was inducted into the Shoot the Bull Hall of Fame in 2000.

He bowled and golfed in local leagues. He also was a member of Elizabeth United Methodist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Debbie (Jim) Arnold of Stockton, Ill., and Mrs. Cheryl (James) Knauer of Elizabeth; and one son, Jeff (Crystal) Williams of Elizabeth; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial fund is being established in his name.
