SERVICES: A family gathering is planned for 3 p.m. Thursday at 2346 N. 11th St., Clinton. The Pape Funeral Home, Clinton, is assisting the family.

CLINTON — Francis “Frank” Shirley, 94, of Clinton, died Monday at his home.

He was born Aug. 28, 1911, in Annadockel, Okla., to Frank and Ella Listen Shirley. He married Alberta E. King on June 15, 1939, in Dubuque. She died in 1983.

He was a self-employed auto mechanic and was a fireman with the Chicago Northwestern Railroad for 20 years.

Survivors include one daughter, Myrna Romer of Goose Lake; three sons, Francis “Butch” (Karen Rowell) Shirley of Dallas, William “Pete” Shirley and Daniel (Connie) Shirley, both of Clinton; 17 grandchildren; many great- and great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Laura DeLarm of Maquoketa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brothers, two sisters and three stepbrothers.
