Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Carson and Son Funeral and Cremation Services, Maquoketa, where a 6:45 p.m. rosary service will be held.

SERVICES: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Maquoketa, with the Rev. James Chappell officiating.

MAQUOKETA — Emogene C. Boehmer, 81, of Maquoketa and formerly of Sugar Creek, died Saturday at the Bluff Terrace Nursing Facility, Clinton.

Burial will be in Sugar Creek Cemetery.

She was born May 26, 1924, in Springbrook to Peter and Catherine Weis Weimerskirch. She married Lawrence Boehmer on Sept. 19, 1943, in Springbrook. He died in 1984.

She attended rural country schools in Springbrook and later received her GED from Maquoketa High School.

She was a homemaker and farmed with her husband in the Sugar Creek area for many years. She also worked as a cook with the Alverno Health Care Facility, Clinton, for two years and Community Care Inc., Charlotte, for five years.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic and its St. Rita’s Circle.

Survivors include her children, Joseph (Shirley) Boehmer of Fulton, Ill., Mrs. Deborah (Robert) Kaiser of Fairfield, Calif., Gwendolyn Edwards of Cedar Rapids, Rhonda Garringer of Iowa and Jolene Burken of Cedar Rapids; one sister, Pearl Smith of Spragueville; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

An Emogene C. Boehmer memorial fund has been established.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, three brothers and one sister.
