Raymond J. Hermiston

Funeral Services and Mass of Christian Burial for Raymond J. Hermiston, 82, a resident of Davenport, formerly of New Liberty, Iowa, will be 12 noon on Saturday, March 18, 2006, at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, Davenport. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today (Friday) at the Halligan McCabe De Vries Funeral Home. The family invites you to join them in a rosary to be offered in the funeral home today at 3 p.m.

Mr. Hermiston died Wednesday, March 15, 2006, at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus after an extended illness.

Raymond Joseph Hermiston was born July 9, 1923 in DeWitt, Iowa, the son of John and Vivian (Ryan) Hermiston.

Raymond was a World War II veteran; he served with the 332nd Field Artillery Battalion in Central Europe.

Raymond was united in marriage to Charlotte Gobel August 20, 1949 in Rock Island, she preceded in death August 23, 1967. He later married Clara Banowetz Weis, January 10, 1975 at Sacred Heart Church, Maquoketa, Iowa

He farmed in rural Scott County until 1985, then moved to Davenport.

Ray was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church and Loyal Order of the Moose. He enjoyed fishing, crafts, and his winter vacations to Pharr, Texas. What brought laughter, joy and happiness into his life were the special times he spent with his family and friends.

Memorials may be made to Genesis VNA Hospice, Our Lady of Victory or CASI.

Survivors include his wife, Clara, of Davenport, his children and their spouses: Stephen (Diane) Hermiston, Kevin (Linda) Hermiston all of Durant, Madelyn (Myron) Phares, Princeton, Iowa, Kathy (Mike) Lee, South Beloit, Illinois, Brian Hermiston, Iowa City, Dean (Ellen) Hermiston, New Liberty, Colleen (Bobby) Hermiston-Lowe, Davenport and Colin (Shannon) Hermiston, New Liberty, Iowa; step children and their spouses, James (Lynn) Weis, Havasua, Arizona, Jerry (Mary Jo) Weis, Maquoketa, Iowa, Gene (Jan) Weis, Davenport and Madonna (Phil) Feeney, Nevada, Iowa; 24 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren; sisters, brothers and their spouses, Ruth Drake, Coralville, Iowa, Ladean (Duane) Christensen, and Doris (Ralph) Bennett, all of Davenport, Paul (Donna Lee) Hermiston, Bennett, Lionel (Sandy) Hermiston, Walcott, and John (Charlene) Hermiston, Blue Grass.

Raymond was preceded in death by his sister, Helen Edwards, October 18, 2003.
