Robert Loots

Robert “Bob” V. Loots, 84, of Clinton, died Tuesday at Mercy North Hospital.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Lemke Funeral Homes, North Chapel, 2304 N. Second St., Clinton, with the Rev. Horst Hehr officiating. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery, Clinton. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Josh Christiansen, John Loots, Brian Cady, Bill Cady, Brad Peters and Ryan Carroll.

He was born May 5, 1921, in Fulton, Ill., to John and Lillian Parker Loots. He married Florence Eversoll in 1948 in Clinton, she died in 1967. He married Izetta Cady Lee in 1968 in Clinton. She died in 1999. He married Ann Mort in 1999.

He was a 1939 graduate of Fulton High School.

He was served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He also served in one of the units that liberated the concentration camp in Dachau, Germany, and was a combat medic.

He worked as an operator at Dupont for 42 years, retiring in 1982.

He was a member of the American Legion and AMVETS, and a former member of The Loyal Order of Moose.

Survivors include his wife, Ann; daughter, Susan (Craig) Christiansen of Clinton; son, Larry (Sandy) Loots of Fulton; stepdaughter, Ruthann (Tom) Nixon of Longwood, Fla.; stepsons, Terry (Betsy) Mort of Clinton and William “Bill” (Susan) Mort of Highland Park, Ill.; eight grandchildren; and five stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two wives, one daughter and one sister.
