Edward Hutton

Edward J. Hutton, 81, of Clinton, died Friday at his home.

There will be no visitation or funeral. The body was donated to the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology at the University of Iowa. The Pape Funeral Home is assisting the family.

He was born Oct. 6, 1924, in Costa Mesa, Calif., to John and Mirl Harwood Hutton. He married Betty Lou Klare on July 19, 1947, in Clinton. She died in 1997.

He served with the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He served aboard the minesweeper Montpelier and the Battleship USS Maryland. He arrived in Pearl Harbor the day after it was bombed. Following his time in the Navy, Edward joined the Merchant Marines and traveled throughout the world.

He was an iron worker, with Local 111 in Rock Island, Ill., retiring in 1989. He served as a coordinator of the Quad-City Building Apprentice Program in the early 1970s.

He was a member of the Association of Bridge, Structural Ornamental and Reinforcing Iron Workers Local 111 in Rock Island. He also served on the Clinton Human Rights Commission in the 1970s.

Survivors include three daughters, Kathleen Hutton (Gary Fewless) of Green Bay, Wis., Peggy Shaw (Rick Shaw) of Clinton and Janice Hutton (Steven Hazelwood) of Cardington, Ohio; seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and a sister, Beverly Hall of Austin, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and three brothers.
