STRIKES FRIEND; THEN REPENTS

Clinton Woman Fells Companion With
a Bed Slat

Special to the Daily Nonpareil
Clinton, Ia. March 7 – Shocked and wounding her friend, Mrs. Mary Murray, with a bed slat, Mrs. Gertrude Hinkley of this city assumed the role of the Good Samaritan, and, after binding the wounds of the other woman, sent for a physician. The temporal vein was severed and the woman bled profusely, but her wound is not serious. The two had been enjoying a social evening together, when an altercation arose, and in a moment of anger the Hinkley woman seized the bed slat and struck her friend violently over the head with it. Believing that she had fatally injured her, the woman became penitent, and the physician found her applying restoratives and bindings upon the injured head of her companion.
