A Wagon Bridge – There is now on foot a project to build an iron wagon bridge across the west channel of the Mississippi River at this point. The Northwestern Railroad Company has consented that the bridge may be put on the south side of their bridge, and that their structure may make one side of the wagon bridge. This will necessitate the driving of a few piles at two or three points, upon which iron columns may rest. From the island to the Illinois shore, the bridge will be of wood, or it may be that arrangements will be made for planking the railroad bridge and using that for wagon purposes. We understand this can be done and sufficient width obtained for teams to pass.
Clinton will never know how immense a business can be brought hither from Illinois until a wagon bridge is built. The Ferry gives hardly an idea of the business which wants to come. Ohee, give the people an opportunity to cross on a bridge at cheap toll, and there is no one city in Iowa which would receive the team trade that Clinton would. We hope our people will at once become warmly enlisted in this grand project, and give it all the encouragement in their power.
