Steamer “Iowa”

Mr. M. R. Brown has laid up his steamboat, the “Iowa,” at Reed’s Landing, for the reason that there is nothing to do in the raft pushing business just now, because there has been no water in the lumbering streams this spring to drive the logs out to the Mississippi. It is expected, however, that the usual June rise will force these logs out; if it does not the raft business will be very dull this year. Already the mills at Clinton, Rock Island, and every other town along the river are shutting down because they have no logs. The prospects now are that lumber will be very high before this time next year.
