Eli Stillman Bailey 1827 - 1892

As a mark of respect held by the members of the bar toward their departed brother, E.S. Bailey, a meeting of the bar was had at the Wapsipinicon Club rooms this afternoon. A very full attendance showed the deep feeling of the members. Judge P.B. Wolfe being called to preside, a committee consisting of Geo. B. Phelps, C.W. Chase, and H.W. Seaman was appointed to secure a proper memento of flowers. A committee to draft resolutions, to be presented to the Bar of Clinton county, on the first day of next term, and also to be to the Supreme Court of the State, was appointed N.A. Merrell, L.A. Ellis, C.W. Chase, A.R. McCoy, A.P. Barker, and A.T. Wheeler comprised that committee. W.J. McCoy, E.C. Walsh, and C.H. George were appointed to notify the judges and members of the bar, in the other counties, of this district, of the death and time of the funeral. It was decided the members would meet at the Y.M.C.A. building at 11 a.m. Wednesday and attend the funeral services as a body. W.C. Grohe, John Jackson, Secretaries.
